Frequently Asked Questions

Sales, Finance and Contract

What are the financial benefits of solar energy?
Simply put, it’s cheaper. Looking at the past five years, electricity from a solar PV system installed at your property has in most cases been significantly cheaper than buying electricity from your commercializer.

Provided the relatively high electricity prices we’ve seen in 2022 and as the forecasts are not indicating prices will return to levels before the Covid pandemic there is reason to believe most businesses will cut costs significantly, both short and long term, with solar PV. Implementing solar PV will also cut CO2 emissions which will reflect positively on your brand and consequently on your long term competitiveness.

How do I find out how much I pay for electricity?
The easiest way to get a quick overview is to look at the bills for the last 12 months.

When our technical partner is designing the PV system they will analyze your historic consumption and cost, either by looking at your bills for the past 12 months or by accessing more detailed consumption data from your commercializer (of course with your prior permission).

Who are your customers?
We offer our services to commercial and industrial customers, not residential customers.
What is Bright Sunday offering me?

Solar PV requires a significant upfront investment. Bright Sunday removes this obstacle as we make the investment in the solar PV system and take care of the system so you don’t have to. You pay for the electricity at a flat cost per kWh (a so-called Power Purchase Agreement, PPA) or at a flat cost per quarter or month. For further information on our offering click here.

What is a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA)?

Instead of investing in your own solar PV system you enter into a long term contract with an investor like Bright Sunday and pay for the electricity from the system. Typically the tenor of a PPA contract is 5-25 years and it can have different terms and conditions. Please check out at our offering and contact us for a discussion on what would suit you best.

What are the main pros and cons between a self-investment and Solar as a Service?

No matter if you invest in a solar PV system yourself or buy a service you will cut CO2 emissions, boost your brand and most likely cut your costs. The fundamental driver for a self-investment is likely the potential to maximize cost cuts. However, there is also the risk the project becomes more complex and costly than expected.

With Bright Sunday Solar as a Service you can focus your time and capital on your core business. We invest in the solar PV panels and maintain them throughout the contract. You get green energy with zero upfront investments and savings from day one.

It is very complex to analyze if a solar PV system performed as expected during a specific period as it depends on the weather for that specific period. To analyze performance you need access to reliable and accurate irradiation data (from satellites or local sensors). In reality this is not possible for most companies and, consequently, they will not know how well the solar PV system performed. Even a downtime of e.g. 5% would impact the financial returns significantly.

If you chose a self-investment you will, for cost and complexity reasons, most likely have to accept a “hope for the best” situation where you will not know if the system performed as expected (i.e. if the investment gave the expected return). The alternative is to play it safe and buy Solar as a Service.

How long does it take to receive an offer and contract?

We can provide a draft indicative offer immediately (based on a quick look at the available rooftop, land or car park). To provide a final offer our technical partner should make a site visit to validate the space intended for the installation, discuss your future electricity needs, etc.

Once our technical partner has provided you and Bright Sunday a final and complete technical design we can present the final offer and the contracts. The contract will be signed digitally – it’s easy, fast and robust from a legal perspective.

What is the cost for the electricity?
The price primarily depends on where you are located (irradiation is lower in the north than in the south) and the conditions of the place where the PV panels can be installed. A flat roof facing south is ideal but panels can also be installed on ground or in car parks (carports with solar PV roofs).

The price is real term flat, i.e. adjusted annually by inflation (if positive). Having a flat price that is independent from the volatile electricity market gives you valuable predictability and makes budgeting easy.

How often will I be billed?
Quarterly or monthly depending on what is agreed.
How much do I need to pay upfront for the solar PV panels?
Zero.
How long is the Bright Sunday contract?
8-25 years (typically 15 years).
How much will monitoring, service and maintenance cost?
Zero. If you become a Bright Sunday Solar as a Service customer you only pay for the electricity.
Are there any additional financing fees or costs?
No. If you become a Bright Sunday Solar as a Service customer you only pay for the electricity.
Do I need to keep a contract with a commercializer?
Yes. The solar PV system will most likely not supply you with all the power you need daytime and for sure not nighttime. You will also need the power from the grid in case of system failure or maintenance.
What if the system fails after signing the contract?
Solar PV is proven technology and Bright Sunday will monitor the system 24/7. Should anything go wrong we will take corrective actions. All technical risks reside with Bright Sunday as you will only pay for the electricity from the system. Simply put, it’s our problem, not yours.
What if I have to stop my business for a while?
The investment by Bright Sunday is made under the condition that we continuously get paid throughout the contract term. Bright Sunday has financing costs that are independent of your level of business activity. Consequently, the contract with Bright Sunday will still be valid and you will have to pay for the electricity (but you can sell any surplus, provided necessary licenses have been granted).
What if the market price drops below my PPA price?
The price is real term flat, i.e. adjusted annually by inflation (if positive). Having a flat price that is independent from the volatile electricity market gives you valuable predictability and makes budgeting easy.

Over a long period of time we expect inflation In the EU to stay close to the ECB target of 2% per year. The development of electricity market prices is, of course, the million dollar question. Our general hypothesis is that electricity market prices over the coming 20 years will increase 3-5% per year from a “pre-Covid” level. This means we expect your savings to grow year by year.

What if I want to move the PV system?
In the contract you have an option to ask Bright Sunday to move the PV system (e.g. to a new building or location). You will pay for the service as usual and cover the associated costs.
What if I want to buy the PV system after some years?
You always have the right to buy the PV system and thereby end the contract with Bright Sunday.
What if I want to terminate the contract?
You always have the right to buy the PV system and thereby end the contract with Bright Sunday.
What happens at the end of the term?

You have three options:

  1. buy the system (typically for €1),
  2. return the PV system to Bright Sunday (at your cost) or,
  3. extend the contract (if agreed by both parties).
Can I extend the term?
Yes, if agreed by you and Bright Sunday. Most likely this will be a very attractive option for both you and Bright Sunday.
